Thanks for the photos. We will never again see the variety of diesels, paint schemes, and class I railroads in the US like we saw in the 70's.
That photo of C&NW Baldwin switcher 87 reminds me of the S scale model made by American Flyer. I wanted the one that sat in the toy shop in Sikeston, MO for a long time, but my parents could not afford it.
The old photo of downtown Omaha looks like a model railroad layout.

I loved the Milwaukee's simplistic paint scheme with just the slanted red rectangle without the big black letters on the nose and sides.

IC 7976-IAIS 7976 Jan 1985 to Aug 2001 Never renumbered from 7976.
- IAIS 7976 suffered an engine failure early on (before 1987) and was set aside at Council Bluffs for parts. It would have been renumbered 476 if it had been repaired. Per former CMO Fred Cheney?, the failure was seized pistons that broke their connecting rods and damaged the block, caused by someone failing to properly align the "P" Pipes (piston cooling pipes) after changing several power assemblies.
- Also per former CMO Cheney?, the engine was kept around as a possible platform for conversion to a Caterpillar 3606 prime mover. This project never got off the ground.
- 7976 was scrapped in Aug 2001 to provide parts to repair IAIS 400 after the Coralville wreck.
IC 8031- IAIS 431
- 431 was painted in 1990 into IAIS phase III paint.
- When sold, IAIS text painted out and unit patched to PWSX a few days before 12 May 2005.
