NLA in new video on YouTube at Halley AR with ballast train at crossing . Glad to see new information on this railroad operation.
This picture of engine & attached cars on new ballast is while train was moving or stopped.XMCX (Motive Care) GP8 703 at McGehee, AR on March 26, 2022. The rehabilitation is coming along nicely. Trains are running to and from Lake Village and Lake Providence once again. 25 mph track speed will soon be possible on the McGehee to Lake Village section in a couple of months. The Epstein Gin in Lake Village is loading cottonseed into cars to be brought to the UP in McGehee. There’s still plans in play to build a branch to the Yellow Bend Port. A new waste-to-energy plant is being planned to be built at the Chicot County landfill north of Lake Village with rail access. Livingston’s Scrapyard in Lake Village wants the railroad to put in a switch to access the scrapyard with a spur track.View attachment 116127
They’re still going to be using both the 703 and the 22. The 703 will mainly be used to bring the cars of ballast on and off the line while the 22 hauls loaded cottonseed cars out of Lake Village back to McGehee. The GP8 703 Engine , will this be the main one the NLA starts using full time?
It was stopped. It was tied down for the day. This picture of engine & attached cars on new ballast is while train was moving or stopped.
Great Picture.
I assume ballast train will go until complete line is finished? It was stopped. It was tied down for the day.
Yes. A good portion of the line between McGehee and Lake Village have already received new ballast, but there’s still a ways to go plus work on Lake Village to Lake Providence section hasn’t began yet.I assume ballast train will go until complete line is finished?
Thanks for sharing that information. You said scrap yard in lake village might want rail service & maybe a spur into their operation ? updates on new business please share & great pictures so far.Yes. That is correct. Livingston’s Scrapyard is considering rail service. The Epstein cottonseed gin is also wanting a new spur put in so they can load the cars off of the main. The Southeast Arkansas Development District (SEADD) are planning to build a new waste-to-energy plant at the Chicot County landfill with both truck and rail access. There’s still talks of building a line from the NL&A, possibly starting on the old roadbed of the former Missouri Pacific Arkansas City branch at Trippe Junction, to the Yellow Bend Port south of Arkansas City. There’s also a possibility of the old Riceland grain elevator in McGehee may get new local ownership and be placed back in operation. Thanks for sharing that information. Great News for the NLA. Glad to see discussions back on Railroad Forums. Think we have had this discussion for a number of years on the NLA. Future looks bright for the NLA. Was wondering from McGhee to Lake Village, how many Spur Tracks are there & were they upgraded too?Great News for the NLA. Glad to see discussions back on Railroad Forums. Think we have had this discussion for a number of years on the NLA. Future looks bright for the NLA. Any news please share?
Thanks
There’s only one spur track and that’s at the former Riceland mill in McGehee. The only thing upgraded on that spur was the installation of a new switch. There’s also a small siding north of Lake Village where those 80-tonners are located and a siding in Lake Village. Those still retain the 80 pound rail. Was wondering from McGhee to Lake Village, how many Spur Tracks are there & were they upgraded too?
It’s still there but I believe it ends next to County Road 361.Looking on Google Earth , it looks like a siding at Macon Lake , maybe that has been removed, thought it was outside of McGhee toward Lake Village?
Thanks for sharing this information. Will the rehab also include cutting brush back from track & will all sidings be upgraded?NL&A trackage as seen from the Hwy 257 crossing at McMillan Corner looking south to Lake Village and north to McGehee respectively. The rails are a lot straighter than what they used to be before the rehab started.
I’m not sure about the brush but all the sidings will be upgraded as well. Thanks for sharing this information. Will the rehab also include cutting brush back from track & will all sidings be upgraded?
These pictures you included really show the contractor has done a good job so far.
Post pictures when you can.
Thanks
As work continues, is the plan for NLA to service Lake Providence port & then go straight to Tallauh, La to interchange with KCS or interchange in Lake Providence with another short line?I’m not sure about the brush but all the sidings will be upgraded as well.
The NL&A will serve the Lake Providence port as well as the Delta Southern Railroad, which owns and operates the section from Lake Providence to the KCS interchange at Tallulah. As work continues, is the plan for NLA to service Lake Providence port & then go straight to Tallauh, La to interchange with KCS or interchange in Lake Providence with another short line?
The last You Tube Video of The NLA showed engine & ballast cars headed toward Lake Village, any idea how far south they went? The NL&A will serve the Lake Providence port as well as the Delta Southern Railroad, which owns and operates the section from Lake Providence to the KCS interchange at Tallulah.
