Chasing some train(s) in Council Bluffs. One today KCS 4621 AC4400CW (prototype for an Athearn model) delivering grain cars and then moving over to the IAIS. And the captive 4-6-0 CB&Q 915 at the Railswest Museum.
The 1974 picture shows the low bridge that destroyed countless rental trucks. Also a number of people died by hitting the center post at high rates of speed at night. That bridge was not missed by the people of Ralston.
A gray PNW kinda day in Nebraska finds UP 6664 crossing the Papio Creek just south of Bellevue NE. and a little farm pond in the hills south of Plattsmouth NE
3 from Saturday. Across the cornfield is the DPU's of a BNSF train west of Oreapolis. A view down a creek it just crossed 2 seconds before I stopped. And a UP train at 14th St in Omaha waiting to go west. The scrap steel gons and the front lead me to believe this is a train bound for Columbus and transfer to the Nebraska Central.
A few medical issues not related to Covid have cramped the railfaning for a bit, but was finally well enough to ride the Santa train in Boone IA today. Rode in an Ex Metra bi-level commuter car. Nice ride down the river valley through the leafless trees.
Happy New Year!! 20 degrees with Rime Ice on the trees and bushes. Rime ice is the result of fog freezing on things. Railroads were busy today. At Fremont NE I found 4 UP trains, two standing BNSF locos, and heard one BNSF on the scanner heading toward Fremont.
Another gray day. But hey, we are alive and trains are running. Some visitors from far away. An old green one and a train of really clean tank cars. And a UP train at Valley waiting for a crew. If I heard right it is LNA01 the Lincoln turn heading back to Council Bluffs.
