MRL #4308 West is on the point of the Night Gas Local that left Missoula, MT at 1730 hrs. on it's way to Thompson Falls to deliver approx. 25 white CONX tank cars.. The cloud over the #4308 is the leftover of a major thunderstorm that was to the SW of Missoula about 3-4 hours earlier than when...
One of the very few turntables left in operation in the US is pictured here in Anaconda, Mt where the Rarus Railway uses it to turn locomotives & cars coming out of their roundhouse onto the right track.
A pic. from the back of #25's tender. Its tender looks like its actually in fairly good condition (unlike the roof of the cab, where the paint is pealing off)
MRL SD19-1 #652, 1 of 2 SD19-1's that MRL has, sits at Livingston along with some MRL GP9's & an SD45. Although #651 & #652 are classified as SD19-1's by MRL, the two look totaly different, while #652 (shown here) may look more like an SD38, #651 looks alot more like an SD7/SD9.
a pic. looking out of the window of the Copper King Express. You can see BNSF's line cross under RARW's in the distance. RARW's tracks also cross Silver Bow Creek, which became known as $hit creek due to the water becoming so polluted by the smelting in Anaconda, which also caused the creek to...
Here is a going away shot of MRL helpers on Bozeman hill late last summer with Forest Fires a plenty in 'Big Sky' country. They were pushing up a 'heavy' grain train. I think this personally addes to the photo..
Great Northern's station in Butte, Mt. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to go in it & look around because I was too busy outside taking pictures of the Copper King Express & the locomotives pulling it (we only had about 10 min. & you expect me to fit both taking pics. of the train &...
Rarus Railway's Copper King Express stopped in Butte for the turn around to head back to Anaconda. The 2 cars are named "Butte The Mining City" & "Anaconda The Smelting City"
GP9 #302 (in front, not visible in this pic.) & GP7 #301 get ready to head back to Anaconda with the Copper King Express. Notice how #301 has the top-mounted "torpedo tubes".
