Running Scared

The subject of Steam is a tough one for me. I never had the chance to witness steam in regular service except in a foriegn country, so it is very difficult to try and photograph today's tourist lines and excursions AND be creative. This is mostly because of the limited times, locations and volume of people participating in the event. Oh sure, if I took time out of my daily life to search out such oppurtunities that exist I could get personnnel with some of the steam lines out there, but it's tough. This is probably my favorite steam picture. It's taken on the East Broad Top during an October Fall Foilage Weekend in 2001. Many of the fans had given up on the waning light of this "last train" of the day. I had done this shot a few years before and failed miserably. That was in color. I thought that upon my return in 2001 that B&W would be the only way to go.

That is awesome, it is like something out of a nightmare or a country song, or a painting for a kids book of trains from the 1960s. Very cool.
