Oversized load

A oversized load truck at Portland, Oregon
This is an old UPFE reefer, probably easier to set on it's side than on it's underframe. Along I-84 between I-205 and I-5 in Portland, ironically right along the UP's mainline down Sullivan's Gulch. Had to scream at Austin to get his camera out, which is funny because he is normally taking pics of everything while we drive. Mom was driving here, she even slowed down to pace the truck so Austin could get his shot. Thanks Mom!

That may be true, but I suspect what really drove the decision was that if you put it in on it's side, it's shorter, which makes going under overpasses a lot easier. Freeways aren't designed for boxcars.
