Built July 1980 (c/n 796323-8), it was eventually repainted in UP yellow and renumbered #705. What appears to be a scratch on the film in the upper left corner of the frame is a star or planet. This is a time exposure, and the light streak is a record of how long the shutter was open, approximately 20 minutes, as I recall. As the Earth revolved, the star or planet remained in the same place, making it appear to be moving across the sky. A friendly railroad employee snapped various lights on and off as I walked around the locomotives with two strobes in hand, firing them off as soon as they recharged.

This is an awesome photo Chuck. Unfortunately it was not taken in January 2007, which is a stipulation of the assignment. Only the contest accepts photos taken at anytime.
