Cutting welded rail

Cutting welded rail

May 13th, 2005 saw temps in the 30s when this work was going on. The day before it was near 65 degrees. Typical Michigan weather.

Quite an action shot. Is that a MOW platform they're standing on?

That is part of the welded rail train and this flatcar has a small cab and rollers to guide the rail down from the rack of flats. It is a real neat process to watch... and fast. Now they will probably come through sometime in July and install the new rail. Hopefully, I can get a chunch of the old stuff from 1952 for a book end.
