The optical system, construction, and exterior are the same as the EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM’. The difference is that it uses a DC motor instead of a USM to drive the AF
This has the same optical system, construction, and exterior design as the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens. Instead of having a USM, it has a micro motor.

This was my 2nd SLR lens, purchased in pre-digital days, 10-15 years ago. It is quite handy and is very popular as an add-on to get that long 300mm reach.
Realize that at 300mm, f5.6 isn't very fast, so you will need bright sunny days to get the best results from it. For railfanning, that's usually adequate.
Also realize that at 300mm, it is best to use a tripod. There are a lot of better lenses out there, but at under $200, it's a pretty decent way to get that long shot. I use this lense often.
On a crop sensor body, it has an effective field of view of 120mm-480mm.
