Pros: Super sharp
Cons:

This is my favorite lens to use for rail photography. It is extremly sharp and fast focusing. It is a bit pricy, but this will fast become the only lens that you will want to use. My brother liked mine so much he went and purchased one himself.
I have used mine on a Canon Digital Rebel,10D, and 20D.

Pros: Constant aperture throughout zoom range
Cons: Weight

This lens is my favorite field lens. It allows great depth of field at all focal lengths.

Using this with the 1Ds means a substantial weight for long periods of time while traipsing though fields to gain that optimal angle of the track. However, the quality of sharpness with the depth of field makes the effort worth it.

This lens' big brother, the image stabilized version (IS) may be viable for very low light situations in photography but, with normal outdoor light quality, I have not found the IS benefits noticeable or the cost increase effective.

Pros: 2.8 L Glass!!!
Cons: Light weight wallet

I love this lens! Fast and excellent quality images. No regrets on not getting the IS model either, even with panning images (ex: aerial plane shots).

Pros: Fast f2.8, tack sharp, tripod collar, good lens hood, very rugged
Cons: weight

I have been using this lens for over 11 years. It is a workhorse, surviving a couple of crashes out in the field. In my experience, it works well with the 1.4x and 2.0x extenders. For digital images, the doubler REALLY gets you out there!
