compromise, yet that's only the beginning of what makes this camera so exciting. The S5 IS is loaded with many of Canon's latest advanced technologies including the DIGIC III Image Processor, so both still images and movies are rendered with fine detail and luminous clarity. And now ambitious photographers have even greater creative latitude thanks to an included hot shoe adapter that allows you to attach Canon Speedlite EX Series external flashes.

Pros: Low price, image quality, 12x Optical Zoom, OIS, lots of manual control.
Cons: Auto-focus in dark situations can drift at times, no raw.

8Mp, 12x Optical fixed lens, Optical Image Stabilization, Stereo Video with zoom capability (have not played with vid yet), variable-angle LCD display, macro focus setting, relatively inexpensive digital camera.

Takes good pics indoors + outdoors, lens cap conveniently auto-ejects when you power on, uses 4 AA batt's (keep a spare set), mem card is in with Batt's under a somewhat flimsy flip-up cover (probably will not break unless you like to spaz out frequently). No RAW images. Hopefully no dust on the sensor as the lens is fixed. Can get decent night images, but at times I have opted to switch to the manual focus before shooting (half-press the shoot button then switch to manual). Camera gives you lots of manual control over its many features.
