For those still shooting film, the Nikon F6 offers the usual high performance that has come to be expected from the legendary F series of professional Nikon cameras.
Those transitioning from an F5 will find themselves in familiar territory. Virtually all the controls are in the same place and function in the same manner. Both control dials have been greatly improved in operation and location and are much easier to use.
Happily, one significant positive change has been the removal of many of the safety locks present on the F5. This is especially welcome at the shutter release.
Two areas where the locks are still present and need improvement are the motor drive selector dial and the vertical shutter release on the MB-40. Both are far too easy to depress and allow inadvertent change of their respective settings causing undesired camera operation. This also is something shared with the F5 that needs improvement.
Those needing 8 frame per second performance will have to add the MB-40 battery compartment to their F6. This will raise all motor drive speeds, something that is essential to serious slide traders. Happily lithium batteries will now provide top drive speeds instead of requiring the rechargeable battery pack as the F5 did.
Overall, the camera is excellent and will provide years of dependable service to the user. Highly recommended.
