This lens is a monster, you'll know that when you first pick it up. It weighs around 5.6 pounds- enough to make you wish you bought a monopod. Mainly I bought this lens for sports, but I'm sure it will make it's way into train land here soon enough. f/2.8 at 300mm is amazing! Bokeh is very creamy and smooth, and the IQ is excellent. It takes 1.4x Sigma teleconverters well, but the quality is not so good with a third-party 2x.

I'm loving my 24-70L. It's a great piece of engineering and a joy to own. Optics and build are very fine. The price is steep though (that's why it "only" got a 9).

I'm sure I just got a bad example of this lens. My other Sigmas have been fine. The 24-70 had to be returned to the retailer due to more out of focus shots than I cared to experience. The problem seemed to show itself at 70mm mostly, but the sharpness at 24mm was outstanding even wide open.
I need a lens that hits focus consistently so I just ordered a Canon 24-70L. Hopefully a lens in it's price range (outrageous) will be better.

This is a freat alternative to and "L" series lens. I would like to get and "L" lens but do not have the cash for it right not. This is now my primary lens on my camera. As with all lenses there are pros and cons. I personally like the lens as it suits my needs at the present time.

This is probably one of my all-time favorite lenses. I bought a copy shortly after they were introduced (Pre-D, no tripod collar, push-pull zoom), and liked it so well I bought another one a couple of years ago! It's sharp across the entire zoom range, even wide open. Another plus is that it is completely compatible with my N80 (film) and D80 (digital), though the digital crop factor turns it into a 120-300 powerhouse!
It's truly a beast, so a rugged, wide and shock-absorbing camera strap is definitely a requirement.
Like most zooms, it does suffer from simple pincushion distortion (not the complex "wavy" kind), but it's easily correctable with software.

I purchased this lens to replace an 18-135 kit lens that came with the D80. It just seemed like I could never get a really sharp image with the 18-135. That's all changed now!
This is a very well-built lens, albeit heavy. It's very solid, zoom is tight and smooth with no creep at all. It has a small amount of distortion (pincushion) common with most zooms, but it's easily correctable via software.
This is my first VR lens, and my only regret is not getting one sooner.

I am using a Tamron 28mm to 300MM zoom with it. If there is any limitations to the camera, it is because of the zoom itself.

Excellent camera! Not much of an upgrade from the 20D, but it can hold it's own. Focus is nice and fast. Easy to operate, wheel on back is nice to use. I would recommend buying the BG-E2n Battery Grip only because the camera feels just a tad small without it. Bought mine used.

Well... I just got this camera as an anniversary gift. It's not even out of the box yet. So... we'll see how it works out. I also got an extra 55-300mm telephoto lens.
