The four clear insulators on the end of the cross arm are designed to also permit the carrier wire to lie across the top of them. Obviously, the wire was attached in the normal way. When ConRail changed the signalling system on the B&A a couple of years after these photos were taken (Dec., 1985), the pole lines became obsolete and were taken down. I made it a point to "rescue" as many of the insulators as I could find lying around on the ground, except for damaged ones.
