Once upon a time Floral was your typical Prairie town. Today the elevator is gone, people are nowhere to be seen and its no longer present on many maps…
On the bright side it’s home to LaFarge Cement, who have their own GE 50T switcher! The plant is switched by CP, being only a couple miles from Sutherland (first point East). If the housing boom continues they way its going – Floral could become a suburb in 5-10 years.

Besides wayfreights, 455 manifest also switches the plant on occasion. The cargo from Winnipeg is so close to completing its journey, yet so far - only six more miles!

Interstingly this is the 2nd time I've seen a critter from Lafarge's Winnipeg Fort Whyte operation, which I never bothered to railfan! The other one stayed in Winnipeg at the former Manitoba Sugar site, only a couple miles away: http://tinyurl.com/5wt7mh

Not sure why the light came out green (it's yellow), overall coloring is quite skewed in this photo - reality is not this pretty!
