I had to look at this photo a bit. I finally concluded that EMD must have dropped a SD-40 on top of DD-35/40 trucks to get a lighter per-axle load rate, at the expense of a long rigid-wheelbase truck. You wonder if in the long run, the wear from the rigid wheelbase was as much as the wear from a larger axle limit. Anyone have any more info on this design? Thanks for the photo, pedrop.

This is a speciall model built to EFVM. It is a standard gauge SD45 on D-D trucks. EFVM received 83 units in 1970īs and 80īs. I have some threads here about DDM45. Look for them here and in the railpictures archives.net galleries. If you want more details send a privated message and I can help you.
