This unpatched SSW GP60 was doing some switching in an industrial area of downtown San Antonio, on the evening of July 11, 2005.

Great to see a Cotton Belt GP60 still unpatched, but damn you, Union Pacific, GP60's are meant for high speed intermodal service, not lowly switching and local duties! Anyway, nice catch.

See also: http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7494 for another SSW GP60 I caught the same day. We have maybe a dozen GP60s doing local work in San Antonio--all the yards, downtown, switching, flying up the spurs...times change. UP intermodals around here these days are powered with SD70, Dash9 and C45ACCTE pairs.

Yeah, I've seen a few GP60's going through San Marcos on rock trains or locals, but they've all been patched or repainted. If I catch an unpatched unit around here, I'll definitely attempt to chase it down and get a few shots in. By the way, of all the GP60's staying around SA, have you been able to find and take pics of SSW 9682? I saw it sitting in the siding a few months ago around the Quarry Outlet center, but forgetting my camera costed me a golden opportunity. Let me know, I'd appreciate it.
