Class Ce-2 999482 brings up the rear of a piggyback train at Suwanne, NM as the last light of the setting sun turns the eastern horizon pink. It's going away in more ways than one. In two years, cabooses will be rare on Santa Fe main line trains, the distant signal bridge will have fallen to new CTC signals on masts, and even the quaint phone booth on the right will be gone.

The old high rollin' days of steam have faded and a little of the ol' rich glamour is worn off now. But some of us still wake up and find ourselves listening for that long, lonesome whistle in the night. That's the sound America's dreams are made of. Close your eyes and make believe just a little bit and I bet you can hear that whistle blow... Johnny Cash, Riding The Rails

Evan, Where is this in NM? I'm assuming on the transcon east of Belen. I can't find the location on Mapquest. Thanks.

Oops, looks like I spelled the name wrong. It's actually Suwanee, NM, on the transcon west of Belen. The bridge I'm standing on is actually west of Suwanee at a place called the map calls Correo, but the railroad just calls milepost 50.
