Tornado Warning on the UP Overland Route

users gallery
The hail is quarter sized as this eastbound UP train gets a roll out of North Platte, Nebraska, in May of 2000. Another severe thunderstorm is moving through, and a Tornado Warning is out. About an hour earlier, a large tornado moved across the UP main not too far east of here, at Brady, Nebraska. To the far right of the photo can be seen the blocky, rain-free Wall Cloud of this mesocyclone. Spring is great time to be in the Midwest!!

great shot, but what the heck are you doing out in a tornado warning. i'd be in the house in a corner if something like that was coming. again, great shot.

thank's for the memories, remind's me of the warning I was in this summer at Somerset, Wi. have never seen the famous "green" sky before when one is near. got to see it within about 5 miles of me there, just as I got back onto our power after a pickup the wind's kicked in at a good 50+ mph. we figure the tornado from report's was within 3-5 miles of our location at the time. and I do agree with the consensus, this is an AWESOME shot!!!!!!!

This is a very dramatic photo. I really like it. That would have to be a creepy feeling to have that tornado bearing down on you.
