Default Variety Part 2

Work and problems with my internet connection kept me from posting additional photos on my other thread. But I'll continue to posting in this new thread.

1. A loaded ballast train at Hooper Jct.

2. Watco power tucked away in the hole at Hooper proper.

3. A UP ballast train pulling up to the loading chute at the Missle Base Ballast Pit.

4. A UP ballast train pulling down to the switch into the Missle Base Ballast pit on the BNSF near Sprague, WA.

13. Some ten plus years after to the BNSF merger, you can still get all green shots at Yardley. In fact all green consists are still fairly common.

14. The UP ballast train crossing Latah Creek coming back into Spokane.

15. A loaded BNSF grain train at Cactus, WA.

16. A empty rail train climbs up Cold Springs Hill out of the Wallula Gap on the UP's Ayer Sub.

21. The Pasco Hump tower sits awfully close to the flight path of the Pasco airport as the next few photo show.

22. With no windows toward the approaching planes, working in the tower must be somewhat nerve wrecking.

23. This navy sub hunter plane was making touch and go practice landings at the airport. A local told me that the airport gets $150 for each touch and go.

24. On a hot and hazy day, a empty grain train comes up through the reverse curves at the west end of Essig Siding near Ritzville, WA.

25. Hatch Grade out of Wallula offers an impressive view of Wallula proper. I'll have to try for a morning view of a southbound UP train here some day.

26 & 27. At the top of Hatch Grade Road are row after row of windmills. There are far more of them than you would ever realize from below.

28. I also found a couple of deer up there.

29. A empty grain train coming into Cheney. I still think that H1 scheme was the best of all three H series paint schemes (including the new H3).

30. UP's MHKSK coming into Spokane at Empire Siding.

31. Strange bedfellows at Yardley.

32. QEDHK passing a UP work train at the SI Yard in Spokane.

33,34,35. UP recently rebuilt the road into Wells in preperation of placing larger turnouts on either end of the siding, and the road now goes to the south end of the siding as well. It's now possbile for a smaller car like mine to get in there. This trio of pics show a morning meet between trains at sunrise.

36. A sternwheeler in the Wallula Gap.

37 & 38. Amtrak #27 and the H-PASBAR make a morning meet at Yellepit, WA south of Pasco.

39. UP 1012 is lit up by another locomotive. The light was so bright, that I was able to take this photo without a tripod!

40. The competition passing on the Columbia River.
