Default Coasters, Coasters and more Coasters

I headed out this evening for a ride along the coast and see what was shaking on the San Diego sub. I knew there'd be no freights, but I figured I'd see some Amtraks.

First Coaster that came by I knew would be a coaster.

1>>SDNX 2101 Coaster Southbound in Del Mar

The next one I was pretty sure was going to be an Amtrak, wrong.

2>>SDNX 2102 Coaster Northbound in Del Mar

Then I took off from Del Mar, and noticed a spot I always wanted to get a shot from. I knew there was a southbound Amtrak coming (which would have the locomotive in the lead) so I stopped and walked over to the spot. I waited and waited. What showed up...

3>>SDNX 3001 Coaster in Encinitas

Then I got in my car, and since it was pointed south, I headed for Cardiff where I heard an Amtrak would been meeting the Coaster in Solona Beach. Well guess what??

4>>SDNX 3002 Coaster in Cardiff

Thanks. I figured no one saw this thread. This is why they call it the surf line.

I don't know how I missed this thread! I always look forward to checking out your vantage points. I've lived here for 30 years, and haven't been to lots of the places you find to shoot from. Neat stuff, as usual.

I guess that now you know where to avoid for the next couple of weeks, huh? Yes, as you see from the Wheel, the Del Mar Fair (actually the San Diego County Fair) opens today! Ahhh. I can almost smell the corn dogs, cinnamon rolls, and cotton candy all the way from home.

I notice in shots one and two, are you on the pedestrian walkway on Camino Del Mar? I think there is a pathway that follows the south side of the San Dieguito River and it gets closer to the wooden trestle.

Cool shots Eric, I like the first one with the carnival in the background. In the last pic, what do those signs near the track say on them? Kinda looks like no handguns.... probably no tresspassing.

You got some good shots even with not so lucky timing with the Amtrak.

Yeah, no trasspassing. They have these signs like every 1/4 mile or so. Some are white, and others are yellow. I'll get a picture, they are kind of funny looking, and there is one that always gets in the way of my shots, so if one happens to be missing.. and there one on my wall in the near future... Haha, I'd never.

Thanks. When you love to drive, and these are the only tracks in the area, you tend to see quite a bit.

Yup, I'll be skipping Via De La Valle for a while. After the Fair is Race season and the whole bit.

Actaully for the first two shots I was just on the side of the road, almost at the road bridge. I've been down that pathway a bit, never to the tressle though. I'll have to do that one day.

Thanks, I think the amtrak had some problem, but wasn't able to figure out what.

Eric - I believe that what you have here is a nice set of Coasters!
That is a beautiful line and the evening light in SC is beautiful. Well done.
