Default A Hour at Empire

The west end of ninth avenue is a great place to sit and watch the trains coming and going from Spokane. This is a nice shady spot to park, and you are just above Empire siding and there is a clear view of the Latah Creek Bridge. You can walk around on the hillside above the tracks to get different angles on the tracks when needed. I was there between 10 and 11am the othere day, and saw the following:

As I was pulling up to the parking spot, the S-SEACHC was already coming down to the bridge. It was followed shortly by the Z-SSECHC. Then a rail train pulled up on Empire siding to where it could see the block signals.

Why can't the engineer be electrocuted?
Because he's not a conductor!

Shortly after the rail train came to a stop, a empty PGE coal train came up to a stop on the main while the Z-CHCSSE ventured out across the Latah Creek Bridge. It made for a nice three-way meet. The rail train left first and the coal train had to wait. Meanwhile a V-CHITAC came west.

Ted,

I think I have been at ninth st before, but I'm not totally positive.. Love to photograph Latah Creek Bridge.. Was that an empty rail train that you saw, Ted??

Thumbs up

Ted,

Great shots of the bridge. When I was working in Spokane I would sit in the parking lot of the casino at Sunrise or is it Sunshine Jct on the east end of the bridge. Next time I get to Spokane I will try and find your spot.

Looked like a great day in the NW for pictures.

That looks to be a great place to get some cool shots. Nice shot Ted, I like that 3-way meet. Whats the train traffic like along there?.

I second that.. nice series, and wow, you get quite a bit of action. Trains on the high tracks, trains on the ground, all over the place. And that is cool how there is the split on the elevated tracks.
