Default Voith Maxima Diesel-Hydraulic

Buried in the German locomotive thread below is a reference to a new locomotive built by Voith (the German transmission maker). It's the world's most powerful single-engine diesel hydraulic locomotive design. Like most new locomotives nowadays, it's not pretty, but it is always good to see a new diesel NOT powered by EMD...

That is an awesome looking locomotive! I hope it is a success so we can see some more variety in new motive power offerings.

It is a no good loco for running in winter time. There is no floor and in places you can see the road bed when walking inside.
I spoke to a Voith salesman, a former Vossloh employe, and he told me that they are concentrating on sales in central Europe.
They also have great respect for nordic winter conditions and have yet to make their home work for adaping the Maxima for harsh winter conditions.
It is an impessing piece of engine. The cardan shaft in the picture has a diameter of more than 300 mm.

Looks like it's set up for switching on dual-gauge track.
