As I came upon this I first thought it was stopped at the crossing in Rosenberg. Nope, just moving really, really slow over the crossing (UP/BNSF). Which gave me enough time to get ahead of it a bit before he poured the coals to it.
Details: 20 wheel flat BBCX 1000 Crew Car: Emmert International BBCX 1002 Engine: BNSF 4473 Thru Rosenberg, Tx on BNSF ~11.30am 1-7-2008 Heading north..... it's a new personal best/largest in my collection at least. Sorry that the full train shot #3 is poorly lit, see my lawyer to complain.....But I won't complain, being that it is January 7 and about 65 degrees and clear and I got out at lunch!

Now that was a cool catch! You lucky dog... Didn't you get to see the big Schnabel run a couple years ago?

Pretty sure that car brought the generator in for our ABB turbine in the early 1990's.

that makes sense since it used to belong to ABB according to the site i linked in the 2nd post. That site has some really good info, and almost 200 pics of this car alone! For example, the center section shown in my pics is actually removeable and in that case the car then becomes a true Schnabel with the load bolted directly to the end supports. Evidently it makes frequent calls to the Port of Houston as a lot of the pics show it there and on the way to/from PoH.

We're expecting a Schnabel car move over the BNSF/TIBR tomorrow. This could be the train. But, it sure is taking a weird route.

Not sure about security, but they do have a crew that will operate the car's load-shifting mechanism when needed. The load can be moved left-right and up-down as needed for curves and clearance issues.

Quote:
very well might be it, Mark. This could easily be a route just to avoid issues in/thru Houston-proper, not only would it screw up all the rail traffic in Houston (like it could make it worse...), but imagine all the grade crossings that I guess would also need to be crossed at walking speed.....it would take DAYS to get thru town! Altho I'm not sure what route it might take to get it "way over" there, I think the next interchange after Rosenberg would be Sealy and those tracks only go east as far as Katy. Perhaps to all the way to Somerville and then east to Dobbin?
