Default Sunday fun on the Seattle Sub

Robert Scott, Richard Zoller and myself got together for some railfanning on a hot and muggy Sunday afternoon. With temps well into the 90's and a storm moving in from the south, the humidity skyrocketed late in the afternoon.

1. We started the day with a caboose hop of a MPSPD. The crew had no idea where the caboose came from, or where it was supposed to go, neither did the Longview yardmaster. It's been a long time since I've seen a caboose hop.

2. We moved to the detector at Castle Rock for the M-EVEPAS. While there looking at the town, I came to the realization that the original line must have passed through the middle of town, and the current route came later.

3. We next moved to the Ostrander crossovers for several trains, including this really short ZLCSE

4. Next up was Mad Dog Mike Sawyer at the helm of the M-VAWEVE just after setting out at Longview Junction.

Why can't the engineer be electrocuted?
Because he's not a conductor!

5. M-EVEVAW came shortly after it's counterpart train.

6. As the storm clouds moved over, the light went away. I dropped the ISO, but that made the headlights really burn into the image.

7. I was surprised by the major kink in the track on the Vader crossovers. It's nothing I'd want to take at 35mph.

8. Hold your nose and take a photo, it's the garbage train.

Beautiful stuff Ted. Looks like traffic was plenty for you guys even though the sunlight wasn't. I bet it was a fun day to be out.

Good pictures, Ted. That caboose was used in an Operation CARE event in Eugene, Albany and Salem last week (I don't know if the train actually operated in the Portland area).

It was an interesting looking "train" - a caboose hop with DPU was the first thing I thought of

John

Here it is approaching the Albany depot:
