Default Winter in China 3: Zhalai Nuer, day 2, lineside (50 p.)

Hi,

The video for this part:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yD-AKus-vIo

Let's continue: it's early next morning, January 31, -25°C

The water of many residents is frozen, so they have to buy it through the window of an old lady's house.

The first steam train of the morning

Shops are opening

Dead, frozen rat

And a faster train

Now we move on close to the pit to catch the empty passenger train returning from the morning shift on the mainline.

Short stop for this spoil train

A maintenance train with steam crane on the horizon, as you can see tracks are built quickly and in a flexible way here

A freight train approaches on the mainline

And crosses the passenger (see video)

Now let's take a closer look at the steam crane

Departure

out of the sun

Another train in the distance to the right

Towards the power plant

Back with the spoil train, after unloading

In town, at the melodic level crossing (see video)

The SY with deflectors comes by

We catch it again close to the washery

Rural life in China

Shunting

The uphill departure

Next: a visit to the workshop

Wonderful photos. Though it's a shame parts of China are still a third world.

Wow, simply wow. You know that's all I really do say when I look at these pictures. :P

The shot with the steam crane is something amazing. It's one of those pictures that literately makes you stop and take it completely in to understand the full scope of the photograph. You just don't see the crane or the locomotive but the ground, the steam raising, the sun in the background. There were so many elements that it took me a good 5 minutes to just look it all over. It was as many of my co-workers said "perfect" including one who is a professional photographer.

That is something I don't normally see when I look at pictures. Incredibly well done

So different over there. A trip of a lifetime IMO. I can't wait to see the rest!

You take some great photos. Enjoyed seeing steam in another part of
the world. Time stands still in China.

Amazing, evocative pictures. A world away from anything I have seen.
