Default Tacoma, WA Scenes

Here are some images from some recent trips to Tacoma, WA.

1. Tacoma Rail switching the new Evergreen Terminal at the Port of Tacoma.

2. Track Relocation at the old NP Head of Bay Yard location. The mainline is being moved further to the south to lessen the curvature of the D street curve and double the speed through here.

3. A Maersk Sealand container ship arrives at the Port of Tacoma while MOW gets some time on the mainline at the Nelson Bennett Tunnel.

4. A southbound manifest tied down at Ruston due to derailment at Nisqually, WA.

5. S-TCBCHI departs Tacoma heading for the Columbia River Gorge. This is typical springtime weather for the Puget Sound.

6. A old lift bridge next to downtown is a Tacoma landmark.

7. M-VBCPAS passing by downtown Tacoma. The old track just above the lead loco is the connection to the old NP prairie line, the original NP mainline. The track has since been severed at several locations.

8. A very interesting sand blasting operation in Tacoma. A track runs through a couple buildings then fans out into a three track yard at the north end of the plant. This old army truck switches around ten similar white cylindrical hoppers using a chain.

Nice shots Ted, It appears you shot every railroad that passes through or runs in Tacoma.

The shot with the container ship and the M.O.W. you couldn't have timed it better.

Nice catch with that army truck railcar mover.

Actually, he didn't get half the lines that are there--but he got the busiest ones (if you don't count the Tacoma Link trolley). Lots of mainline action, multiple yards, the tide flats, and there's more yet to come if Sounder builds the new connection up the hill to the old High Line. Tacoma's a great place to railfan once you know the best spots, and it'll only get better. The new D street overpass should be a good vantage point to catch action shots on the curve and the yard.
