I had originally plan to start my chase in Troutdale, but upon hearing how late it was running, I headed east to Cascade Locks to catch it. The weather didn't cooperate, and I only managed one sunlit image the whole day. But I still had a lot of fun.
1. The 844 crossing Herman Creek at Cascade Locks, OR. 2. The STDFI (train symbol) on the concrete arch bridge at Bonneville, OR. 3&4. The special slowing to a stop at the west end of Dodson Siding for a red signal.

With the train stopping for a bad signal at Dodson, I left there before it got going again before the train started. I headed for a location west of Multnomah Falls where a few weeks prior, I fruitlessly waited for a westbound UP freight. Even though I had grabbed my video camera from my rig, the train was already on top of me as I approached the tracks. It was all I could do to aim the camera and press the shutter button. The train had caught up to me much sooner than I expected. But for a grab shot, I still liked how it turned out. Not having much luck looking for a good location by Portland, I decided to skip it and headed north on I-205 for a planned shot at Ridgefield South.
5. Approaching Bridal Veil. 6&7 At Ridgefield South. 8. Climbing Napavine Hill at Hawkings Road.
