While in Portland last Saturday for a slide show with Robert Scott and Drew Mitchem, we caught the P&W Vancouver-Albany train in East Portland. After posting these pics elsewhere, I got a E-mail from the engineer (Adam P.). He put on a great show for us as he rounded the curve at OMSI and hammered away going by us. The sound of those GP40's and GP 39's in run 8 was enough to give one goosebumps.

Why can't the engineer be electrocuted?
Because he's not a conductor!

A couple of shots, one from mid-march and another in early April show how the leaves are budding on the trees in the Centralia area. But still got a ways to go to the summer foliage in the third shot at Vader.

On the last Thursday in March, I railfanned for a few hours in the evening with Brian Sopke and Zach Hastings around Napavine and Winlock on BNSF's Seattle Sub.

1. A MPASTAC decending Napavine Hill.

2. And a talgo also dropping downhill from Napavine going north.

3. UP's AGBSE at Winlock.

4. BNSF's "Everett-Albina" at Winlock.

The Sunday before the trip above I was also out railfanning.

1. I caught a empty autorack train heading south from Seattle in good light.

2. But the light didn't hold for the next train, having disappeared just seconds before the train showed up.

3. In moving around I missed several trains. I decided to catch the UGLSE at Steilacoom, arriving at the spot just as the train started over the causeway.

4. The empty garbage train got held for Amtrak, so I caught it going by Titlow.

Nice work Ted. I especially like the Centralia and Steilacoom.

Nice images, Ted. I especially like the image of BNSF 8234.

Ted and others,

I believe I heard on the scanner that it was the "Everett-Vancouver" train, M-EVEVAN.. Isn't this the one that used to be the 600/601 local train that would have geeps on it?? I'll have some pictures from that posted tonight..

Oh it might have been Zach, I just forgot exactly which train it was.

If you are refering to the P&W train pics. The first on is on the east side of the Willamette River, just across from downtown Portland. In fact I'm under the approach to one of the many bridges across the river. It's kind of a rough neighbor hood, so I've never have lingered in this area very long. I've photographed down here plenty. The second shot is not far from the first, just around a bend to the east.

Great shots Ted. The shot of the UP consist over the causeway is probably one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing.
