The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad crew started rebuilding a section of the shop track in Garibaldi today. We pulled about 250 feet of old worn out track that was built with 80# rail. The rail is so worn out that in many places the base of the rail has half moon rusted through where the spikes held the rail in place. We knew we would need to replace the rail soon, but when the rail broke under our GP-9 while it was stationary we knew the problem wouldn't wait. Over the next couple of weeks we will be bringing in relay grade ties and larger 110# rail that was removed from Tillamook yard a year ago. Here are a few pictures from todays work.
