Default My Shots- Finally

I have been a bit on the busy side lately....
Here is what I was able to grab....
Before the show shot.
UP EB Mainfest at Celilo

Sunday Morning Showers, UP baretable EB at MP 99.

Nose Hair shot of Southbound OT train from UP MP 99 location.

Southbound on the OT.

Another EB manifest glides past MP 99 from a higher vantage point.

Under the Wires. EB stacker visible on the curve under the wires.

UP manifest getting his groove on Eastbound at Rufus.

Heading to the other side of the river to get the coveted coal train with the "Mitchemized" ACe on the point we found this heavy manifest heading west with a trio of "Fantastic 40's"

Finally the elusive beast comes into view in the distance.

A little closer...

It was a good time to head west. The rain was coming again. Time to visit the roundhouse in Brooklyn while the colorouful king is on the road.

Something is missing?

Its good to be the King for now....

Details.....

Controls

All in all it was a great sucess this year in that we were able to take the technical display of the shows to the next level. Of course we look forward to bigger and better things next year. Thanks to all who attended and their king comments.
Also big thanks to Charles and Dale for helping to make the sound and video this year what I always dreamed about.
Paul

Well another fine GorgeRail come and gone. Is it me or do they seem to get closer together every year. Great shows as always, I thought turnout was pretty good with the 4449 and 844 in the PNW.

I ended up spending a little extra time down there. Still playing hooky from my work train. Don’t have to be at work until Tuesday morning. I was at Castle Rock on the way home when Drew talked me into shooting the 844. I turned the truck around, then on top of that I stayed one more night. Tuesday night I got a room at Cascade Locks. Make sure you ask for a waterside room, the UP is something like 25 yards behind the Motel with the BNSF on the other side of the River. They even leave free earplugs in the room. I didn’t need any; I left the Room window wide open with the heat on low…..Sounded great! Just like the old days camping beside the tracks.

I might add a shameless plug for Cousins Country Inn; this without a doubt is the place to stay, already made my reservations for next year. The Shiloh Inn for the people that stayed there was a great disappointment, at least to me. The room was not worth what they charged. The “free” breakfast was a joke. I’ll need to start drinking again, to enjoy their Bar. Hey, a few Doubles and the place might start to look a little less depressing.

Anyway on with the Show!

I would not have got these if it were not for Drew. As I said it the last post I was driving home, telling myself I don't really like Steam. Drew had a good point, I had said I'd do it next time....Drew said I might be dead the next time they run up here....GOOD POINT! I plan on still being around a long time, besides who else is going to teach "Chewy" how to shoot!

I won't even get into the Frogger I almost hit.

Mad Dog

Thanks Drool!

1.) UP 844 East, just out of Cascade Locks. 5/23/07 10:44am. I meet a fellow Gent named Jim Thomas, at least that's what I remember. Jim had a book of 11x14 color photos taken with the Canon 5D. Fantastic steam photos. Had to be some of the best stuff I’ve seen in awhile….and I’ve been around!

2.) UP 844 East just about to take the switch at Crates, Or. 5/23/07 11:43am.

3.) UP 844 East just passed the detector at Quinton, Or. 5/23/07 14:26pm. The detector had readout of 71mph. I just stood there in total awe, standing there thinking so this is what it was like in the “day.”

4.) UP 844 East at Munley,Or. 5/23/07 15:31pm. Not sure of this location, help me out guys. And girls!

Your welcome Mike! The location in your last photo is Tower Road, the siding off to the west is Castle, where the Boardman Coal Trains also split off onto the branch.

Thanks Drew.

Greg it's not my one handed typing, I don't know what the heck I'm doing with the software, just don't what to screw something up. Trying to teach this old dog new tricks.

By staying in the area a little longer than planned, I had a bit of a honey do list. Had to repair a fence and deck, pickup after the dogs (Sheppard, Black lab and Border Collie)....they leave a bit of a trail! Mow, wash trucks, pickup my room, SLEEP, go see Mom, yada, yada, yada……………………………………………

Here is what you get by sticking around after GorgeRail. I have to tell on myself. I looked a little bit like "Frogger" in shooting a couple of these. This guy was not wasting anytime.

1.) While shooting pix of Mt. Hood with some boat action, I heard a whistle in the distance....Cool of UP W/B to go with the rest. Wrong, this W/B was on MY side of the river. Just happen to be the one I was waiting for. Train was the Pasco-Lakeyard with KCS 4024 & 4000. 5/24/07 08:24am.

2.) Not easy to do pace shots by yourself. 5/24/07 08:17am

3.) On the fill just west of Lyle, WA. 5/24/07 08:22am

4.) Heck I shouldn't have to tell ya where this one is! 5/24/07 08:54am

I'm glad you posted the KCS shots. I was really tempted to head back to the Gorge for that one.

Aaron and I set out on Friday for our GorgeRail adventure. Our goal was eventually to photography east of Maryhill. Thanks to the UP being busy and the BNSF clearly not we decided to photography the UP in the western gorge and eventually end up where we'd planned (since the location was Aaron's idea, I'll leave the photos from there up to him).

1. While waiting for a UP empty grain train to pass through the S curve at Ruthon Point I captured an eastbound manifest exiting one of the tunnels around Hood.

2. Moving east a bit here's a UP manifest winding its way through Mosier. Just east of Mosier this train would have air troubles costing it about an hour. Later it would have a warm bearing passing the Quinton detector. By the time the defective car was safely set out, the east end of the gorge on the UP was all tied up in knots and the crew was dead on HOS.

3. On Sunday we hung around a bit between Celilo and Biggs. Here's a UP APL stack train running below one of the large rock outcrops in the gorge.

That's all for now, I'll be posting a few more on dogcaught later tonight.

Great location above Mosier Steve - very nice. Mike also some great stuff - see I told you I could get you to chase The Big Money-Maker UP!

I'm sorry I missed it. Gorgerail is usually the only time I make it down to the Gorge, and I like seeing the slideshows since they give me a lot of new ideas.
