My son and I were at Brackett's Landing Monday afternoon (12/11/17) photographing lots of train action, beginning at 2:30pm. The son is low and there is less than two hours of daylight remaining before the 4:16pm sunset and the 4:30pm arrival of the first Seattle-Everett Sounder, which starts the evening passenger parade.

A southbound (tt/west) COFC freight has passed Picnic Pt. as it rounds Brown's Bay.

The freight is held at MP 18 for an auto rack train. Three trains are visible as the freight has a garbage train is hot on its heels.

The freight gets the signal to depart as the auto rack continues north (tt/east).

Action like this will be greatly diminished if/when BNSF builds a second main line between MP 18 (Edmonds) and MP 16 (Pt. Wells/Richmond Beach).

Thursday (12/14/17) was predicted to be the last sunny day for awhile, so my son and I went down to the fishing pier to photograph birds. As (bad) luck would have it, a northbound (tt/east) power hop went through town after we left the parking lot and were walking out to the pier.

The ferry was docked, so I could not get a clear shot of the diesels from the pier. I managed to take these poor shots with my super telephoto bird package: 7DII + 500L telephoto lens + 1.4x teleconverter, tripod mounted. I am posting them because I am seeing fewer and fewer Cascade green Geeps up here as these older units are getting the "Swoop" treatment.

The last day of autumn (12/20/17) saw Santa riding a southbound (tt/west) Boeing bunker train that was stopped below Sunset Ave. for a coal train.

Studying the roof lines of the two Geeps as they passed by, I noticed that the antennas and horns may have been raised to clear the RV style air conditioners.

I like to go down to the waterfront to photograph the first sunset of winter. There was no sunset today (12/21/17), but I went down anyway and took pictures of the 4:30pm Sounder. Although the days will start getting longer, the riders will still have to wait another month or two before their commutes are no longer in darkness.

That is the Edmonds-Kingston ferry, part of the Washington state ferry system.

Query Edmonds Ferry on You Tube and you can find many videos of the ferry. This one gives a very good perspective of the Edmonds waterfront and the places I photograph trains. Recommend viewing w/full screen.

Going from south to north (right to left on the screen)

MP 17: Pt. Edwards (the condos on the hillside), the marsh (the flat area below the condos) and the curve at the south end of town.

MP 18: Brackett's Landing North (the jetty going out into the water north of the ferry), the fishing pier at t he end of the marina, and MP 18 below Sunset Ave. (the street above the tracks north of the ferry).
