Some shots from Wednesday (5/17/17) on Sunset Ave.

An oil tanker is held for the afternoon passenger parade at the beginning of a stretch of single track past Picnic Pt.

A northbound (tt/east) empty grain train went past Sunset Ave. around noon Wednesday (5/24/17) as I was photographing Caspian terns diving for fish out in the Sound. I suspect the train is part of a circular routing system where loads come west on the former SP&S mainline along the Columbia River and empties return east via the old GN mainline over Stevens Pass.

The train really picked up speed after half of it passed me. Note the beach. This is the week of some of the lowest tides of the year on Puget Sound.

A southbound (tt/west) freight powered by older diesels was waiting for a northbound (tt/east) Saturday afternoon (5/26/17). I wanted to take photos of the entire southbound lashup (two or three orange/green Geeps and a Cascade green SD60M) after the northbound passed by, but I had to get home.

A junk train headed south (tt/west) around noon Wednesday (5/31/17) after a brief stop at MP 18.

Motive power was an ABA set of Geeps. I can't resist taking shots of old power, even if they are just grab shots.

There was a slow order all day through Edmonds due to repairs to the switch at MP 18. A few years ago this switch had to repaired at least once a year. I once saw someone using a cutting tool to lay a handmade switch on an HO layout. This MoW worker appeared to be doing the same thing on the prototype.

The evening Vancouver, BC bound Cascades from Sunset Ave. Motive power was a Genesis unit.

Canadian National C40-9 #2019 was tucked into the power of a northbound (tt/east) freight Tuesday morning (6/6/17). According to The Diesel Shop, this is a former C&NW unit.

I wish CN2019 was still in Chicago & Northwestern Yellow and Green.

Some photos from Monday afternoon (6/12/17).

Nothing special or unusual about the day's Chicago bound Empire Builder (Amtrak #8).

A southbound (tt/west) freight was briefly held for a northbound (tt/east) tank train. Counting the one in the far background, three trains are visible in this photo

The southbound had a red signal and came to a complete stop on the outside main line. About a minute later it received a high green. Train engineers hate this, as they are rated by fuel consumption. Having to power up from a complete stop really cuts into the MPG's.

The southbound had a KCS Southern Belle unit in the consist.

Do you see much KCS out there?
