Two celebrity units passed the marsh while I was taking bird photos on Sunday (4/1).

First up was Amtrak #1 on the north end of the morning Seattle bound Sounder.

Later, a very late Seattle bound Empire Builder passed by led by Amtrak #156, one of four Genesis units done up in special heritage/commemorative/anniversary paint schemes.

There was discussion on another thread about the Mile Post 17 mile marker being replaced with a Mile Post 16.9 mile marker. The MP 17 sign remains atop the speed restriction signs.

The MP 16.9 sign marks the new bridge which was installed in 2010. I can understand the confusion as the MP 17 sign can literally disappear from view when the speed restriction signs are viewed from a certain angle.

Thanks. In photo #1 (far right side) and photo #2 (far left side) you can see the west viewing platform of the marsh boardwalk, where I have taken many photos.

Monday afternoon (4/23) an SD40-2 was the trailing unit of a northbound (tt/east) light power set which I photographed as it rolled past the marsh. From its numbering, I assume the 3,000 hp, C-C unit is being relegated to yard duty, a far cry from its days as "King of the Road" back in the 70's and 80's.

Friday afternoon a train of empty Boeing cars passed the marsh as it headed north (tt/east). Fortunately, I had my 5D MkII/24-105L wide angle zoom with me to get the entire train in one photo.

The short train powered by a single diesel would look perfect on a model railroad layout.

Sunday morning (5/6) I was up early to shoot from Sunset Ave. the "super moon" setting over Puget Sound. [See MP 18 News thread].

From Sunset Ave. I relocated to the marsh, where I caught the rising sun reflecting off a southbpund (tt/west) container train.

Tuesday 95/8) a visitor from the midwest rolled south (tt/west) past the marsh. The afternoon's Chicago bound Empire Builder (Amtrak #8) was towing varnish, Rail Ventures Bella Vista. http://railventures.com/ourfleet_bella.html

Thursday (5/17) a UP engine made a rare appearance in Edmonds as a DPU on the end of a northbound (tt/east) freight.
