Black Friday (11/24/17) started off at the marsh with the Seattle bound Empire Building (Amtrak #7).

The Builder was followed by a train of four Boeing 737 fuselage cars, three of which are visible in the second photo. It was the second fuselage train I have seen this week.

My son and I drove to Sunset Ave. You can see those photos on the MP 18 thread.

We returned to the marsh later in the day where I got a shot of a southbound (tt/west) freight with a Geep as the trailing unit. It may be a good time to take photos of the remaining Cascade green units as more and more of the older diesels are showing up with shiny new Swoop paint jobs.

We finally have a few sunny, clear days after a long stretch of our typical seasonal doom & gloom weather. The Olympic Mountains have gotten snow, which makes a nice background.

I was hoping to catch a new Challenger unit on the head of the morning Vancouver, BC-Seattle Cascades, but a Genesis unit was the power on the north (tt/east) end of the train.

Thursday (12/7/17) my son and I went to Marina Beach to photograph the sunset. The sun will set at its earliest (4:16pm, PST) and most southerly position from now through the first day of winter. During this period the 4:30 Sounder will arrive in Edmonds about fourteen minutes after sunset. This should allow for some nice shots, weather permitting, a big IF up here in the Puget Sound Region.

My shots with the 5DIII + 24-105L medium zoom, tripod mounted.

That is the Edmonds-Kingston ferry, part of the Washington state ferry system.

I found this video on You Tube of the ferry dock. It gives you a very good perspective of the Edmonds waterfront and the places I photograph trains. Recommend viewing w/full screen.

Going from south to north (right to left on the screen)

MP 17: Pt. Edwards (the condos on the hillside), the marsh (the flat area below the condos) and the curve at the south end of town.

MP 18: Brackett's Landing North (the jetty going out into the water north of the ferry), the fishing pier at t he end of the marina, and MP 18 below Sunset Ave. (the street above the tracks north of the ferry).

The second day of winter (12/22/17) was clear and chilly as a southbound (tt/west) rolled past the Edmonds marsh. The snow-capped Olympic Mountains across Puget Sound make a nice background.

A northbound (tt/east) freight passed the marsh Saturday afternoon (12/23/17) with a UP engine sharing head end duties. Although the UP serves Seattle from Portland, I very seldom see any UP engines north of Seattle on the BNSF Scenic Sub.

We had a rare white Christmas in the Puget Sound region, so I got out early to take photos before the snow melted. Amtrak runs on Christmas day, giving me shots of the morning Vancouver, BC-Seattle Sounder rolling past a snow-covered marsh.

The last Vancouver, BC-Seattle morning Cascades of 2017 was led past the marsh by a Seahawks diesel. It did not help the 'Hawks, as they lost to the Arizona Cardinals when the Seattle place kicker missed a field goal as time ran out. It will be the first time the Seahawks have not made the playoffs in several years.
