Thank you., Happy New Year to you and all our members.

My son and I went down to the marsh New Year's afternoon to take our first train photos of 2018. A late running Chicago-Seattle Empire Builder (Amtrak #7) was leaving the station just as we pulled up in the pickup. I jumped out and got some grab shots of the 'Builder, which was sporting a second unit.

My son's first rail photos of the year were of a northbound (tt/east) freight.

I haven't seen any, but I am not track side every day when the 'Builder passes through town.

Although Monday (1-8-18) was overcast, it was not raining like it had been all weekend. I took advantage of the break in the wet stuff to get out and take some photos. The Edmonds marsh serves double duty as a spot for photographing two of my favorite subjects, birds and trains.

A northbound (tt/east) tank train rolled by with foreign power (quite literally) on both ends. I like it when the marina's boat hauler is in position to mark the location of the photos.

I had my 7DII + 500L telephoto + 1.4x teleconverter mounted on a tripod set up at the #2 viewing platform to photograph an eagle that had landed in the marsh. I tried to use this setup to get an artsy shot of another northbound.

A third northbound (tt/east) had a leased unit in the lashup that was a former Santa Fe SD75M.

My son and I packed up our gear and headed for Sunset Ave. after a fuel stop at Taco Bell. Go to the MP 18 thread to see what we saw there.

Are they units from state/regional/commuter passenger services (Caltrain, Puget Sounder, Cascades, etc) that are going to/coming from maintenance at Beech Grove?

I finally got to see the repainted SD75M's when 253 & 255 led a northbound (tt/east) freight past the Edmonds marsh Wednesday afternoon (1-10-18).

Shortly after that a southbound (tt/west) Boeing bunker train led by an SD60M and a Geep passed by.

My son's photography is getting better. I typically hand him the 5DIII + 24-105L wide angle zoom to photograph trains passing the marsh while I photograph birds with my other two cameras + telephoto lens combos.

A northbound (tt/east) garbage empty Thursday afternoon (1-12-18). It is that time of year when I like to get out during breaks in the rain, even if the light is not that great.
