Default Mediterranean Cruise XI: Return Flight (50 p.)

    Mediterranean Rail Cruise 2008
from Milano Centrale to Barcelona Sants by local train

    Part 11:
A recapitulation of the journey and Alpine panoramas, August 24

A Civia of line 10 took us at 9:15 a.m. sunday morning to Barcelona airport

    SNCF-machine-tickets, Milano-1-day-ticket, ÖBB-onlineticket-control and FS-machine-tickets

RENFE-counter- and machine-tickets, the left one is the combi-ticket to the railroad museum, SNCF-counter-tickets

To Vienna we went by SkyEurope flight 3123. It was 1 1/2 hours delayed, but it would be worth it...
After Barcelona you cross the sea and reach the shoreline again near Marseille.

Down to the right you can see Marseille, the coast going to the center is the Côte Bleue with Niolon. The big bay behind it is the Étang de Berre, the canal leading to it and the big bridge of Martigues are situated to the left in the center.

Saint Tropez to the right and Port Grimaud to the left

Now we have reached our next spot, to the bottom left you can see the bay of Anthéor well, in the center the red rock massive.

Here Anthéor is situated in the center, the railroad line and more winding street can be easily spotted.

Oh yeah, there was quite high visibility: Mont Blanc! ;-)

    Nizza and the Mont Blanc

Nizza, to the right in the center you can see the main station

Back to Villefranche-sur-Mer bay, this time with cruise ships - as promised! :-)

    Towards Switzerland

A last view of the Mediterranean near Savona

Above the plains of Northern Italy

    Alps with moon! ;-)

    Lago d'Iseo

    Into the Italian Alps

View along Adige river towards Bolzano

    Merano and Bolzano

    The Dolomites

    Towards Großvenediger

    Towards Großglockner

    Lienz again

    Tauern Pass

St. Michael to the left and Leoben to the right

A view at the railroad junction St. Michael, the Rail Cargo Austria center can clearly be seen.

And finally: Bruck an der Mur junction to the left and Kapfenberg

From here on across Semmering sadly there were clouds, but during landing we were thrown back into bitter ÖBB-reality: a Talent class EMU on the Eastern Railroad! ;-D

Ich hope you liked the trip reports! :-)
