Wink Steelmills? Coalmines? I prefer my industry sweet! - Color

Every year in fall the sugarbeet campaign starts and lasts into the winter months - time to visit a sugar factory!

Siebenbrunn-Leopoldsdorf station near Vienna on November 28, sadly the mainline here, Vienna - Marchegg - Bratislava, doesn't see old Austrian ÖBB class 2143 and Slovakian ZSSK class 754 "diving mask" diesel locos in front of passenger trains anymore since the Europe-wide timetable change in December.

Just opposite the station lies Siebenbrunn sugar factory, still using its factory-owned class 2067 shunter with driving rods called "Judenburg". The "mountain" to the right consists completely of sugarbeets.

In the shade of the steam cloud

Another sugar beet train arriving with ÖBB class 2016 "Hercules"

    Shunting back towards the factory

A shunting worker clears the track for the local, the only daily freight train coming here all year round

EURegio train from Bratislava with Slovakian "diving mask"

Let the festival of light begin! ;D

    Mount Sugarbeet errupts

December 8, the last day before the timetable change

A nice surprise: 2143.040, the only 2143 in nostalgic green livery, arrives with a sugar beet train

And finally a 2143-meeting with my train home to Vienna

Nicely done. Looks like you got to have the run of the place!
