    Smile Fall Steam - Plandampf 2006, Part 2 (63 p., 6 Videos)

    Hi!

On we go with the report, again the map:

Night impressions at Seckach after the arrival of the last steam train.
All photos were taken handheld, at ISO 1600, about 1/40s, f/2.8.

That 218 diesel accompanied the steam train in the evening

141 228 was in charge for steam loco transfers

Next morning started relatively wet, but it still would be a quite pleasant day.
    Impressions from Lauda:

Again at Seckach inside the steam train

A fourth steam loco, 38 3199, had arrived as replacement for the second planned 64. It's a Romanian-built replica of a Prussian P8, liveried as Deutsche Reichsbahn from a period where locos still had colors of their former state railways. Not quite matching with the 1960s/70s era of the other rolling stock used, but still optically and accoustically delightful.

    Again 38 at Hainstadt

23 058 and 042 with photo passenger near Hainstadt, handheld camera and photo on the tripod - not that easy to handle both... ;-)

    Making of...

Together with local families I waited for the next train to Walldürn.
As probably every family with children from towns along the line went at least once by steam train, this event was definitely good advertisement for local railways.

At Walldürn I made my way on foot to the "photo-curve" mentioned in part 1 of the report.
I met the 64 going downhill with mixed photo freight

23 042 with RB 18429 on great curvy climb

    Forest see-throughs

    Interesting art at Walldürn

Now I visited the place at Walldürn station where locos were maintained

    Walldürn in the evening

I went back to my hotel via Miltenberg to check out the Main valley line for the next day.

    Plandampf-kids

The next day I had to rise very early as it was the only working day with Plandampf.
School children definitely were happy about early steam trains, like RB 34801 crossing here my train at Stadtprozelten...

Day 3 and 4 with a lot of steam action and Frankfurt main station in the evening will be featured in part 3.
    Greetings,
    Roni

    Thumbs up

Some terrific images! I especially like the non-traditional views like the blurred locomotives, detail shots, and human interest.

    Outstanding!!

    Wonderful.....

A bad day of train chasing is better than a good day at work!
