    Location: Mississippi DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer

    Directions: Main junction is on elevated right of way at West Pascagoula Street between Gallatin & High Street Closest freeway interchanges are South State Street on I-20 & Pearl Street on I-55. Use either to reach Pearl, go west on Pearl & then, after passing under the tracks, take Gallatin south to Pascagoula Street, which is one way eastbound.

    Description: Located in an urban setting, this is a junction of CN/IC from Chicago to New Orleans & Mobile through Hattiesburg, Ms. & KCS from Meridian, Ms. to Shreveport, La. ( Meridian Sub ) to Vicksburg, then becoming the Vicksburg Sub at Vicksburg to Shreveport, La. There is an Amtrak Depot north of the junction on the CN/IC main.

    Type of Operation: Switches at Junction are hand thrown. KCS is single track, manual block ( Track Warrant ). Remainder of CN/IC trackage is CTC controlled double track through town.

    Typical Motive Power: CN/IC: Anything on the roster can be seen with IC/GT&W/DW&P becoming rare, with UP coal trains running to a power plant at Moss Point, Ms. via Hattiesburg, BNSF at one time ran these coal trains, but now UP has this contract. KCS: Anything on their roster can be seen including the brand new SD70ACe'S with NS & BNSF power running through on the intermodals. Lease power has been showing up lately on KCS, as well as MRL, IC&E, & DM&E. You may see a very rare Mid South GP10 or Gateway Western/ Eastern unit, but very few of these are left.

    Peak Operating Hours: Afternoon. Amtrak City of New Orleans stops southbound at midday, northbound late afternoon

    Approximate Daily Train Frequency: CN/IC: 20 to 30; KCS: 20 to 30; Amtrak: 2

    Radio Frequencies: CN/IC: 160.920, 161.190; KCS: 160.545, 161.565

    Nearby Points of Interest: CN/IC yard 2 miles north of the junction. KCS yard on southeast side of city.

    Remarks: Food, lodging abound along nearby freeways.

    Safety Considerations: Limited parking near the junction area. Views of junction from Amtrak depot are poor, but both routes are within sight there.
