Remarks: Photography is good anytime of day, depending on direction of trains. Food, gas, & lodging are available at most exits along I-65, US 280, & I-20/59

Safety Considerations: Parking is available at 32nd street near Sloss Furnace. While the area is relatively safe it is an urban setting so use common sense. Also CSXT & NS police patrol the area so refrain from venturing onto railroad property.

I'm not sure if this is correct for the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, but when CSXT still ran to Gadsden we monitored channel 66 or 161.100 & toned the dispatcher on channel 58 or 160.980. You can listen to the A&TRR on channel 20 or 160.410, channel 84 or 161.370 in the Birmingham area.
