Some photos of my railfanning around the East Bay 2017

Railroadforums.com is a free online Railroad Discussion Forum and Railroad Photo Gallery for railroaders, railfans, model railroaders and anyone else who is interested in railroads. We cover a wide variety of topics, including freight trains, passenger and commuter railroads, rail news and information, tourist railroads, railway museums and railroad history.

We have new Chargers up here that are scheduled to go into service soon on the Cascades.

My wife is visiting relatives in Lincoln. She said it is unseasonably warm down there.

Pretty dirty for a UP unit. I have seen high powered GE road units pulling ballast trains up here. Does this indicate motive power surpluses due to traffic slowdowns?

I don't think so. Generally SD70's just aren't used on UP mainline service here that much these days. I de-saturated the picture a bit for dramatic effect, but the whole train in general was pretty dirty. I just don't think they pay much attention to MOW equipment as long as it runs, or it could have recently been up on the pass.

I rarely take my heavy Canon gear to the tracks anymore. All three of these were taken with the same camera in virtually the same spot using an all in one bridge camera, the Sony RX10 M4

Good shots. Lots of people are switching to small "bridge" or mirrorless cameras. I benefit when their old, heavy gear shows up on the used camera market.
