July 23 2004
We return to busy Oslo T-Bane-station Majorstuen.
Class T2000 with support for overhead wire and third rail had been delivered in 1994 and was already put out of service in 2009 due to constant technical difficulties. The western suburban network has been converted from catenary to third rail, Holmenkollen Railway followed last in 2009.
The interior of a class T2000.
Holmenkollen Railway is the oldest suburban line in Oslo, the first section opened in 1898.
We got off at Holmenkollen stop, the train continued uphill to Frognerseteren terminal.
We arrived at the holy ski jumping hill, flooded in summer to create an artificial lake.
Probably the oldest in the world - the first competition had taken place in 1892. It had been rebuilt seventeen times before a completely new construction followed in 2009 for the 2011 world championships.
Of course we climbed the top.
We encountered an original class T1300, built 1978-81, at the station.
Back in town: Majorstuen.
Underground with Holmenkollen view.
Subsequently, I took some photos of trams near city hall.
Our good-bye from Oslo.
July 24 2004
Early morning we sped along the fastest rail line in Norway, Gardermobane, at up to 130 mph.
Our Flytoget class BM 71 at Oslo-Gardermoen airport station.
The airport turned out to be surprisingly chaotic, additionally we were loaded into a cramped Tyrolean CRJ for the more than two-hour-flight back to Vienna.
Öresund bridge panorama on the way - we will return here soon.
Arrival in Vienna.
August 28 2004
As we know from reports until now, we still had a few days left on the ScanRail passes and travelled to Copenhagen via Hamburg and Sylt by the end of August.
We continue with this Öresund view in Copenhagen - I always imagine that all major modes of transport are included in this picture - the rail line is located on the lower level of the bridge.
Seen from Rundetårn ("Round Tower"), a 17th century observatory. The equestrian staircase allowed transport of heavy equipment to the top by horse carriage.
Copenhagen impressions.
At 6:40 p.m., we returned to the main station. EuroNight 483 "Hans Christian Andersen" to Munich was ready to depart at 6:54.
DSB IC3 MFB 5269 under the beautiful station roof.
Our Øresundstog (Swedish: Öresundståg, "Öresund Train") consisting of SJ class X31K (DSB class ET) was approaching at 6:56.
View of Öresund from the lower level of the bridge.
Gigantic mood over Malmö C shortly after seven o'clock.
Evening sun in Malmö city centre.
Later, we retired to our hotel near Centralstation.
August 29 2004
Shortly after 6 a.m., I was up and about on a glorious morning.
The classic station from 1872, terminal of Södra stambanan, has been extended since by an underground station as part of Citytunnel Malmö in 2010.
X31K 4351 in front of the lovely station hall.
Classic railcar, at least as maintenance vehicle.
Local traffic in the Southern Swedish province of Skåne is being provided by Skånetrafiken, up to 2007 operated by SJ, since then by Arriva. Class X11 EMUs were in service.
An SJ X2000 highspeed train approached.
More impressions next time, followed by a day trip to Gothenburg.
