A friend of mine passed along the following info:
"This is a legit plate. It came off an 0-8-0 built in 1906 for service in Cuba. Not much value for it's history but still a nice plate."

Thanks for your comment, as I am a collector of Dutch builder plates I'm not sure where it came from but I thought it has been sold to Cass Scenic Railroad. This plate came into my possession with a trade I did for a highly collectable Dutch plate. The plate is valued by an English company (who would like to put it up for sale at their site) between the $1750,00 and $3000,00, and they expect it to be in de low $2000,00 since there is only a small group of people who collect USA plates over here. You asked me what my asking price would be, every offer higher than $2000,00 is being considered. I have no problem that payment is being handled by an escrow service so that you can check the plate on his authenticity first.
