Hi,

To the previous part of the series:

August 19 2003

In the evening we had returned to Poprad during rain showers and sunshine, then we walked to the town centre for dinner.

A class 460 EMU operating a local service.
ost160202.jpg

Even on July 12 2014 this class still was in operation, but a new "elephant" double decker EMU rival already had arrived.
ost160203.jpg

ost160204.jpg

In the morning of August 21 2003 we encountered old and new at the narrow gauge terminal.
ost160205.jpg

The bridge was frequented by pedestrians.
ost160206.jpg

ost160207.jpg

Departing towards Starý Smokovec.
ost160208.jpg

From this point the line to the depot descends steeply to the standard gauge level.
ost160209.jpg

View from one GTW at the platform to another below on the connecting line.
ost160210.jpg

Side view from the standard gauge platforms.
ost160211.jpg

The narrow gauge track even crosses one standard gauge station line. To the left private Lokorail 182.072 passes through Poprad-Tatry with an eastbound freight.
ost160212.jpg

A class 420.9xx on the way to the depot in front of a nostalgic coach and the church of Georgenberg in the background.
ost160213.jpg

Nostalgic fire engines.
ost160214.jpg

Spisska Sobota - Georgenberg - was once settled by the Zipser Germans. Here you can find the most impressive old town square of Poprad (Deutschendorf) with its bourgeois houses and their characteristic roofs.
ost160215.jpg

The Catholic church St. George was unlocked for us.

Back at Poprad station platforms in 2003.
ost160218.jpg

As comparison on December 5 2015, featuring concrete platforms and escalators up to the bridge.
ost160219.jpg

A goods train heading east hauled by a class 131 double loco rushed past on August 21 2003.
ost160220.jpg

IC 504 "Wüstenrot" Kosice - Bratislava departed on July 13 2014. To the right sleepers and car transporters were stabled having arrived in the morning by EuroNight 445 from Prague.
ost160221.jpg

Eleven years before, in the afternoon of August 20 2003, I encountered a single CD couchette coach at the same spot.
ost160222.jpg

The bus terminal next to it.
ost160223.jpg

Overnight express R 422 "Cassovia" Kosice - Prague arrived at 7:30 p.m. hauled by a class 163.
ost160224.jpg

ost160225.jpg

The narrow gauge depot closed for the night.
ost160226.jpg

R 612 to Bratislava already in the dark on December 18 2007.
ost160227.jpg

ost160228.jpg

On December 4 2015 the Tatras still could be discerned in the dusk.
ost160229.jpg

In the morning of July 13 2014 I walked to the road bridge across the railway near my hotel when a GTW arrived at the depot.
ost160230.jpg

742.398 shunted the through coaches which had arrived by EN 445.
ost160231.jpg

Passengers were waiting for the unloading of cars as a freight train passed by.
ost160232.jpg

Only 10 minutes later the next sleeper arrived: R 443 "Sirava", also from Prague, but to Humenné - hauled by beautiful CD 150.215.
ost160233.jpg

A Slovak sleeping coach conductor serving breakfast coffee.
ost160234.jpg

One day earlier the station master took a shortcut through a coach in the pouring rain.
ost160235.jpg

Morning fog on December 5 2015.
ost160236.jpg

R 602 "Cingov" to Bratislava appeared purely in new liveries out of the sober modern scenery.
ost160237.jpg

ost160238.jpg

The winter morning sky of December 18 2007 on the other hand was completely clear, here at Lucivná before sunrise.
ost160239.jpg

Next, we moved to Gánovce east of Poprad.
ost160240.jpg

A single class 182 in front of the ever changing moods over the High Tatras.
ost160241.jpg

A classic, sadly not running anymore today: R 421 "Excelsior" Cheb - Kosice.
ost160242.jpg

Next treat was colourful CD 151.001 (modified class 150 from 87 to 100 mph top speed) with EC/Ex 120 "Kosican" to Prague.
ost160243.jpg

It almost met "Gorila"-prototype ZSSK 350.001 (built in 1973 as CSD ES 499.0001) hauling IC 501 to Kosice.
ost160244.jpg

Back at Gánovce we got on a local passenger with mail coach at the rear.
ost160245.jpg

View at town- and mountain-skyline.
R 604 "Dargov" Cierna nad Tisou - Bratislava was conveying a through coach Moscow Kiyevskaya - Zilina via the Ukraine.
ost160246.jpg

On May 11 2013 two freight trains met.
ost160247.jpg

R 607 "Liptov" to Kosice with 362.009.
ost160248.jpg

I spent the evening of July 12 2014 at Lucivná. 361.106 pulling R 609 "Spisan" just made it into the last sunrays of the day.
ost160249.jpg

Once more RZD-sleeper Bratislava - Ukraine - Moscow... perhaps a slight hint where we will go in this series. ;-)
ost160250.jpg

Next time, however, we will explore the High Tatras! :0)
