I have accepted a Conductor Trainee position in Mason City, Iowa. I'm looking for any advice you might have and a little insight into the training program and the type of work in Mason City as far as road or yard.

Run away. That's the best advice I can give you. Do a little bit of time and listen to your coworkers and you will get it. Don't listen what management tries to sell you and you DO have Union representation despite being a trainee. Find your local Union reps and ask them for help if you need it. And never, NEVER snitch anyone out to management- you will get black balled by everyone you work with from the start. The job market is good right now try to find something else!

I am a class a truck driver going through the hiring process for a conductor trainee position at a small commuter rail in Northern California. The money is appealing... I am currently a Teamster but this job is with the Operating Engineers union. Should I also run away? 🤔
