Guildford arr 9:28 (scheduled rerouting because of signal work near Basingstoke)
Guildford dep 9:41 (South West Trains SW 444 -> Weymouth)
Wareham (Dorset) arr 11:55
Bus to Corfe Castle
Harmans Cross dep 14:00 (Swanage 4MT -> Norden)
Corfe Castle arr 14:10
Bus to Wareham
Wareham dep 16:59 (SW 450 -> Micheldever)
Bournemouth arr 17:26
Bournemouth dep 18:08 (VT "Voyager")
Birmingham arr 22:45 (scheduled rerouting)
First stop that morning was Oxford - finally some real English fog! ;D
A First Great Western DMU leaves Oxford towards London Paddington next to a waiting Freightliner-loco
A class 180 "Adelante" arrives
The reason for my stay at Oxford: a Pathfinder Tours railtour with two EWS 37s
Shortly before moving on I caught this Freightliner 66 with a container train
Now it was time for sunshine again at Guildford. Normally Virgin trains to Bournemouth don't pass this station, but a detour because of signal works had to be taken this weekend costing more than one hour. I changed to a South West Trains service for Weymouth so I could reach my destination, Wareham, earlier.
The station is of course interesting because of its third rail electrification.
A class 450 (electric Desiro for third rail)
My train to Wareham (class 444)
After my punctual arrival at Wareham I could catch the next bus to Corfe Castle at the Swanage museum railway:
<a href="http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk" target="_blank" class="externalLink" rel="nofollow">http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk</a>
Next: a walk across the lovely southern England landscape in summerly temperatures
View towards Corfe Castle (village and castle)
The first steam train to Norden: today British Railways 4MT 80104 from 1955 was in service
Back to Swanage at 13:20
I walked on to the next station, Harmans Cross, here some cars on a siding
The train at 14:00 was about to take me to Corfe Castle
The DMU into the other direction waited for the classic exchange of the "token"
At Corfe Castle
The 14:32 return trip to Swanage
Impressions from the village
After a short but intensive hike: the DMU at 15:10 to Swanage from the great castle view
Nice meeting, sadly no old bus...
Further views of castle, village and DMU
The nice weather also was responsible for some air traffic
At 15:30 the steam train departed towards Norden
A wide angle view with steam train, the sea can be spotted on the horizon
The last steam train for the day: 15:52 arrival at Corfe Castle with nice signals
After a ride by bus and Desiro I took a few snaps of pretty Bournemouth station before starting the long trip home by Voyager
