Now it starts with day 1, the only relatively cloudy day of the trip although even here the sun came out for a while.

Stansted: dep 8:21 (Central Trains CT 170 -> Birmingham New Street)
Leicester: arr 10:51
Leicester: dep 11:05 (Midland Mainline ML 222 "Meridian" -> Nottingham)
Loughborough arr 11:16
Loughborough dep 17:22 (ML 222 -> London St. Pancras)
Leicester arr 17:34
Leicester dep 17:51 (CT (TransPennine) 158)
Birmingham New Street arr 18:48
After my landing at Stansted airport: a pair of One class 317 EMUs arrived from London Liverpool Street as "Stansted Express"
However, for me the journey went northwest by Central Trains class 170
Meeting with Midland Mainline HST at Leicester
This Meridian brought me to Loughborough

The only heritage railway with double mainline tracks, Loughborough is also one of the biggest museum stations
The train at 11:28 will reach the station shortly
That day British Railways 2MT 78019, built 1953, was in service
It's amazing how much love for detail went into this station and British museum railways in general

Quite some collection of diesel locomotives, even more can be found at other stations
I was lucky to witness a short shunting move by a DMU right at this moment

And the last train at 15:15 between Loughborough and Quorn & Woodhouse
Back at the Loughborough mainline station
While class 156 is still slowly accelerating, the HST disappears in the distance at 180 kph
Meridians and HSTs at Loughborough
And finally my train to Leicester, from where I took a 158 to get to my hotel at Birmingham
