  1. JD Car Puller

    JD Car Puller

Not a recommended way to move cars around, but this tractor with chain was used to move an empty boxcar so another load could be spotted. This industry (received paper containers) disappeared in 2007 and a community college now occupies this site.
  2. CN backhoe

    CN backhoe

I spent two years railfanning Winnipeg next to CN MOW shops at Portage JCT, yet I've never seen this guy. In fact this is the first RR backhoe that I've seen anywhere, all the others were leassed from contractors...
  3. Branchline maintenance

    Branchline maintenance

New rails along with ballast are added to the La Riviere subdivision. The branchline is served by a tr-weekly wayfreight, typically with two GP38-2's for power. Right behind me is Winnipeg's newest and biggest suburb, Whyte Ridge, although you likely can't tell that from the photo. To the...
  4. VIA underdog

    VIA underdog

I'm surprised they put this little critter in a museum, as I've seen a similar one working Winnipeg's Union station. Might even have a picture of it somewhere. Otherwise the photo speaks for itself - just love that VIA yellow on a tractor! PS. Note the fire extinguisher in the cabin, this...
  5. CBNS CAT special!

    CBNS CAT special!

It took me five photos to get this right. Apparently CBNS has won a contract to move some heavy machinery, as this is by far not the usual load. A couple days ago I saw the tractors tires and plow on a flatcar, photo incidentilly shot on the same train at roughly the same time and the same spot...
  6. Building the Railway...

    Building the Railway...

CN MOW employees working the mainline. The way I cropped the shot, you might think that its two mainlines meeting at a diamond, when in fact its just a curve. The "MOW tractor" is lifting the other MOW onto the rails. A very neat operation to observe.
  7. Intersting load

    Intersting load

    The photo speaks for itself.
