  1. Strange lash-up on a local

    Strange lash-up on a local

I've been observing this local for almost two years now. It performs switching at Fort Rouge yard, local job to Fort Garry Industrial Park #2 (aka former Manitoba Sugar site) and to the cement plant, which is where this local is coming from. I've seen the following lash-ups for power, with an *...
  2. CN van

    CN van

Caught following a Speery Services van on the mainline. Looks like an oddball.
  3. GE vs. EMD

    GE vs. EMD

You can tell which one is which by the wing. While the Dash 9-44CW & SD75I and vice versa lash-up are very common on CN, it's not easy to zoom in and get this shot. You can see the minor GE/EMD differences by looking at the two 4000 h.p. beasts.
  4. Circus trailer?

    Circus trailer?

Caught him on a westbound intermodal. I really like the trailer, never seen anything like it. As it's small, has two doors and is very clean, I'm guessing its a circus trailer. I couldn't find a better category to post it under.
  5. Traffic jam

    Traffic jam

On one of my first visits to Portage JCT (I visit that place about once/twice a week) I was lucky enough to catch a great traffic jam. I've seen bottlenecks since, but this one is by far the best. Let's break it down: In the foreground, E/B CN local with CN 1435 & 7220 (GMD1u & GP9RM)...
  6. BC Rail 762

    BC Rail 762

It may not be in BC, but it's still trailing a draper taper! (CN 5530, SD60F).

  9. Modern CN

    Modern CN

Two Dash 9-44CW's, CN 2674 & BC Rail 4644 (http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=25354&cat=500&page=2) lead a lumber train into the city. A decade ago you wouldn't even dream of CN running all GE alsh-ups with BC Rail units as regulars.
  10. CN Scale Test Car

    CN Scale Test Car

Caught him a while back. Sorry that the photo is so small, had I known such small cars existed (it's a cut-down hopper), I would of zoomed in more then I ussually do. He caught me completely off-guard, right between regular stuff.
  11. Last Canadian Safety cab

    Last Canadian Safety cab

More then 30 years ago CN invented the Canadian Safety cab, which has created such oddballs such as the GP40-2L(W), SD40-2(W) and the GP38-2(W) that don't look even close to their regular versions. Don't forget that draper tapers, namely Dash 8-40CM, SD50F, SD50AF and SD60F have this cab as...
  12. CN's one unit wonder

    CN's one unit wonder

While one unit wonders are fairly common on CP, they're rare on CN. When they happen though, it's ussually with a SD40-2/SD40-2(W) or a Dash 9-44CW for power, not a draper taper! CN 5522, SD60F, leads a mixed train which had some new hoppers on it. You can also see "Portage JCT" in...
  13. CN 5522

    CN 5522

This SD60F lead a mixed solo - all by itself. Ussually 2-3 units lead trains on the CN mainline.

  17. Working all year round

    Working all year round

CN crew works in winter and spring. If you look really carefuly, you'll notice that the slugs are different. In the top photo it's YBU-4, in the bottom one it's a S-3. Most often it's a GP9 slug though. The power is always GP9RM. CN 7213 & 203 CN 7251 & 268
  18. Two Dash 8-40CM's

    Two Dash 8-40CM's

Two Dash 8-40CM's, CN 2426 and BC Rail 4624 (Dash 8-40CMu, upgraded to 4400hp) lead a mixed.
  19. CN 2727 leading

CN 2727 (2005 Dash 9-44CW, rebuild CN 2667) & BC Rail 763 (SD40-2) lead a westbound intermodal on the mainline.
  20. Odd couple

    Odd couple

CN 2727 (2005 Dash 9-44CW, rebuild CN 2667) & BC Rail 763 (SD40-2) lead an intemrodal, as they perform switching before heading out west. You can see the mainline in the backround.
